They call it coincidence. They accept the gift but show no thankfulness for it. They fail to see it as a sign of God’s love for them.

And what about those who do know God, who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? Thankfulness is part of their way of life. It characterises their thinking. They are always giving thanks. Because they know that everything they have comes from God. They know that God is always present, even in difficult times in their life.

Thankfulness is a way of thinking that shows itself towards other people as well. Even towards those who are very annoying, or whose actions we can easily criticise. Especially towards them, we might say. Criticising is easy. But encouraging by thankfulness is much more fruitful.

How happy a church is that is full of thankful people.

Thankfulness starts in the heart and mind with an understanding of God’s great kindness and never ending faithfulness to us. It grows from God’s love and is watered by his daily faithfulness and blessings. It characterises the person who depends on God and knows God.
