But surely this is an impossible job, especially with people who are not just uninterested but actually hostile. And more so when we are shy, timid and not good at talking. How is it possible?
With humans it is all impossible. It is no use turning our attention in the first place to methods, techniques or strategies. We must turn out attention to God first of all.
Winning people for Christ really is impossible for humans. But God has sent humans to do the job. He has done this so it can be quite clear that is he who wins them. So humans must always be mere servants who always depend on God. This includes depending on the message he has sent: the gospel, God’s powerful way of saving people.
It seems foolish, weak and unimpressive. It was designed that way. God purposely undermines the demands of humans who want to tell God what to tell them. The gospel is a non-negotiable command from the living God.
So how can such a confrontational approach work? Only by God’s grace and God’s Spirit. His Spirit changes the heart and frees the will. Who will make it possible for people to be won for Christ? God will.
