One of the great human leaders with an obvious touch of divinity. Someone to be respected  and revered because of his teaching and character. And after his death his disciples spoke about him as divine. They referred to him with terms that previously they had only used for the Lord God.

But this was not like the Roman system. Jesus was marked out before his birth by clear announcements of his divinity. Mary was told – before she had conceived – that he would be known as the Son of the Most High, the Son of God. His life death and resurrection demonstrated the truth of this.

He was also very clearly Mary’s son. A real human who was given the title and role as the King over David’s kingdom. In fact his big job was to be King in God’s Kingdom.

So where does that leave us? It leaves us as either citizens or rebels in a theocracy. In a world where God is the Sovereign Ruler. But is there no other world? No other state? Is there somewhere that we can live where God is not the Sovereign Ruler? No, there isn’t. He rules over everything.

That’s why Jesus came. To bring the world back to God. To bring you and me back to God. God did it through a real human man. Not one that he adopted into divinity, but his eternal Son who was always God. He became human to bring us back to God.

Are you back with God because your life is united with Jesus? That is cause for reverence, worship and praise.
