Second, Jesus refers to the name God used when he spoke to Moses at the burning bush (Exodus 3).  He is called the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. This means that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were alive as far as God was concerned. Jesus says this shows that the dead rise.
Some teachers of the law agree with Jesus (20.39). They are probably Pharisees who believed the same as Jesus about resurrection. See Acts 23.6 where Paul raises the question of resurrection in the Sanhedrin and causes a big argument.

In this story Jesus is telling us that marriage is for this age, but those who share in the age to come will have relationships like children in God’s family. He also tells us that there is certainly a resurrection of the dead, and that the life of the age to come is resurrection life.
If we believed what the Sadducees believed we should change our mind because life in this age is not all there is. There is a life in the age to come where there is not death. So we should not live only for this life.
